Translators Quality Assurance

All our Translators are strictly screened and vetted to ensure we only recruit the highest calibre of Translators.

The following criteria must be met by our Translators:

  1. The Translator must have formal translation qualifications (formal university degree from UK such as MA in Translation or abroad – The level of qualifications must be verified against NARIC database).
  2. The Translator must have excellent English writing and communication skills.
  3. The Translator must have a good understanding and in-depth knowledge of their working languages and country-specific cultures – ‘localisation’.
  4. The Translator must be resident in the UK for over 3 years and must be able to provide us with National Insurance Number, work permit or Immigration status clearance.
  5. The Translator must work exclusively into their mother tongue.
  6. Experience:
    • If Translator qualified in the UK and lives in the UK, the Translator must have a minimum of 4 years of proven professional experience in the Translation field or a minimum of 400,000 words of proven translation experience.
    • If Translator qualified abroad but living in the UK, the Translator must have a minimum of 5 years of proven professional experience in the Translation field or a minimum of 450,000 words of proven translation experience.
    • If Translator qualified abroad and living abroad, the Translator must have a minimum of 6 years of proven professional experience in the Translation field or a minimum of 500,000 words of proven translation experience.
  7. The Translator must provide LE with 2 samples of their translation produced into their native language. Each sample should be min 1000 words long. These samples have to be proofread by our regular qualified translators.
  8. In order to be considered for subject specific/ technical translation projects, translators are required to provide 2 proofread/ certified pieces of translation (min 2000 words) in the specific subject area they claim to be specialised in. For example: A translator claiming he/she is specializing in translation of financial documents/ contracts will be required to provide LE with an appropriate sample of translation produced in this particular subject area.
  9. In order to be considered for transcription services, or Easy read format, translators are required to provide LE with 2 samples of their work in the specific area they claim to be specialised in.
  10. Candidates must be proficient in IT and have knowledge of Machine Translation Platforms.
  11. Accreditation and/or active membership in a relevant translation association preferred. For example; membership of ITI, IOL or ATC.
  12. Candidates must be able to identify the need for further training and show evidence of Continued Professional Development. They must keep their language skills and cultural knowledge up to date. They are required to carry out research and build on their glossaries in specific subject areas they are specialising in.
  13. Candidates must ensure they are covered by indemnity insurance.
